It’s been a Month!

Wow, it has been already a month that my fry was born. Out of 120, now only 1/3 alive. This is my first mission fish-impossible task and it’s been great!

Oh good bye, July!

June gave me the nature’s gift – new born creatures, July taught me how to take care of them. Hopefully in August, more interesting breeding stories come! 🙂

Enjoy the rest of the weekend! 😀

Suicide Travel to the Magic Carpet

I can’t believe this!!

I woke up at 4:30 am this early morning. I was having terrible dream. There are 3 nightmare characters that I HATE the most. – Rat, Roaches, and Baby Rats!! I was chasing by baby rats all night, it was awful….
So anyway, I went to the bathroom and when I  thought… everything was just a dream and I still have enough time to sleep, I was getting out of the bathroom. I wasn’t really 100% awake until.. I felt something under my left foot.

Oh, is it some kind of jelly?

Well, so I looked at it and it was… a dead white mickey mouse platy on my carpet! I was literally like “What the….!!!!!!!” I couldn’t believe that I just stepped on my fish and whether it died before the accident or not, I killed it again with my foot! I really really really wanted to just take away my left foot. I grabbed a tissue and cleaned the carpet… My hands were shaky for about 5 mins after I lay down on my bed. It was just too.. disgusting that I felt my fish with my foot. Poor my fish..

Wait a sec…. But HOW the little fish diver could lay down on my carpet. The fish tank was away 80cm from the where the fish was dead. It must jumped so high, I imagine…

The Feast! – The Secret of Potbelly

Finally, I took a couple of close up shots of my fry. I gotta be honest, my camera is still awesome! Though I think it was just a luck that I took those shots.

"Ah.........I ate too much..."

"Dude, I think I can see your organ.."

As you can see, after the ‘Feast’, they got some potbelly and it looks adorably funny! :p Now I’m looking at my fry tank, some of them are just laying on the bottom. Oh boy.. Maybe it was too much for them.

Hello New Friends

Today, we have 4 new friends in the No. 1 Adult Club Tank!

They’re all pretty and lady-like as you can see. Pink rosy-cheeks….. I wonder how old they are. One of them is already pregnant. She’s like 4.5~5cm small and a pre-mom!

"We're new and everything looks strange! But it's okay, cause we're Pretty!"

I went to fish market today to buy fish food. This time, I decided to try new stuff. I bought “Brine shrimp”, iced. It was a bit disgusting when I saw the images on google research. But why not try a half -alive food for my fish? Upgrade my fish maniac level. It was cheaper than I thought. So I guess it is not cheap in Korea but here, if you want to buy 100g of iced brine shrimp, it is 15 HKD per pack. I have no idea how much I can feed to my fish per time but I guess I will know soon. I don’t really have many fish to feed now – compare to other ‘extreme’ fish people – so I think I can use this pack for a while. I only bought 1 pack today cause I just wanted to try first. I am going to try it tomorrow since I already gave my fish number 1 ~ 7 too much food this morning. Fish number 8 and 9 didn’t have much but they’re all in that together, so won’t have a chance to eat more today, huh!

So, back to the new strangers. They’re also Mickey Mouse Platy but WHITE. Their body is snow white and also, kind of see-through white so you can see inside of their body so easily. If they’re pregnant? – Busted!

For those of you who have the first time buying fish, there’s a proper process you should know BEFORE you put your fish into the tank.

** Match the Water Temperature before let your fish jump into your fish tank!

It is really important to make sure that the Water Temperature has no big gap between your bag of brand-new fish and your fish tank. You probably keep your fish tank’s temperature around 22~26’c. Nobody knows how warm/cold is your bag of brand-new fish. IF you just put your fish in your tank right away, it’s like when you jump in to the hot spring water without knowing if it’s ‘not killing me-enough warm’. – You get hurt! Burned! The fish is the same. And they are very sensitive about the temperature.

So what you want to do is,
1. Put your bag of fish – don’t open it yet – in your tank about 30~60 mins.
– This will make the bag’s temperature as the tank’s water.
2. And then, you could put a little hole in the bag so that the tank’s water and the water inside of your bag could mix together so give some time your fish to adjust to a new environment!

First thing to do: Adjusting Water Temperature!

That’s it! It’s really easy. Just be patient a little bit! I made mistakes a lot of of times because I ignored this step, and it caused lots of bathroom funerals. 😦

Tungchoi Goldfish Market

Awesome Seawater Fish Tank at Tungchoi Fish Market

Last week, I went to the Fish Market. It’s called, Tungchoi Goldfish Market. This is really not a fancy tourist spot but it’s always in the guidebook of Hong Kong. I didn’t really know about this place until my mom gave me a couple of tour guidebook of Hong Kong when last time she visited me. I’ve been living in HK almost 8 months now but I haven’t been to many places yet. Maybe I should read the guidebook again sometime.

This market has a real variety. It is full of fish stores and pet shops included rabbits, cats, dogs, turtles and some other weird pets that I don’t consider as a pet.. (like frogs!)

Now let’s walk together.

You’ll see a lot of stores from the beginning of the street! It’s so awesome! The prices in every store pretty much similar and they do have a very broad and cheap/expensive products. – From 4 dollar fish net to huge crystal fish tank.

They sell various decorations too. Like houses for little fish and real/fake plants. The price is depends on the size and type usually. I want to have one of those brown house when I have a bigger fish tank! 🙂

This is the real plants for your tank. The shop keeper was so busy to keep them fresh and ‘watery’ every min.

They also sell woods and stones for your tank. The price range is between 20~500 dollars. I saw more than $500(HKD). I think it’s a bit extreme that paying such amount of money for a ‘Stone’.

Enough about side stuffs. Now, Let’s check out the fishes! 🙂

The Security Guard, "Fish Market CATS"

The funny thing I noticed there was, 4 out of 10 fish stores have cats! They are big and always walking around the store, very slowly and quite. Yeah, they are security guards. :p

Now let’s check out the crazy “Fish Bag” scene. It’s is a mascot of the street.

"Hmm.. Which one I should buy?"

Zoom In–

"Please pick me! We are yellow cuties!"

"We won't bite you, please pick us!"

"We are the cutest! Red and all!"

Did you enjoy the pictures and little tour? 🙂 If you visit Hong Kong, you should visit here and spend a couple of hours, just watching all the exotic fishes and ‘people’ there. Street scenes are pretty interesting too! 🙂
